Yes plagiarism is used at all levels and our Ph.D. students have to produce a turnitin report before submitting the thesis: sometimes ot is discovered only when publishers look at the manuscript before the production of a book and it comes out… But my bet was to reuse a software for other purposes it was build for, especially when you have it and pay for it anyway…

Must say I wish we had two days. Ah well. If we don’t get to it tomorrow, I’ve got it prioritized for later work once my crazy October is over.

I said at the time of that Twitter convo and still think that although (as you point out) DH is one of the more tolerant and accepting communities, the very intimacy of an unconference that forms strong bonds is likely to be hugely problematic.

I think too that your work at THATCamp Virginia in developing child-friendly spaces is also relevant here.

Comment on Session teaching basic node.js by Dave Lester http://leadership2013.thatcamp.org/2013/10/08/session-teaching-basic-node-js/#comment-137 Wed, 09 Oct 2013 17:26:49 +0000 http://leadership2013.thatcamp.org/?p=314#comment-137 JS knowledge is not necessary. If there are diverging skill levels, we could also form multiple groups (assuming someone else would like to help teach).

For learning basic JS, I’d recommend jsforcats.com; we could potentially walk through this as a group to learn some fundamentals.

(Sorry about the hubris. And options for this now exist, of course.) Trevor, I think your ideas about using existing platforms are reasonable, but humanities-centrism is I’d say a highly desirable spec for such an arcHive. (H for Humanities, of course). Count me in to talk about this, though.
